What is the R&D admin support team?

The R&D admin support team is a network of administrative professionals. We provide support across the whole research infrastructure. This includes the:

  • R&D office
  • Research Delivery teams
  • NIHR Southampton Clinical Research Facility
  • NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre
  • Southampton Emerging Therapies and Technologies Centre
  • Southampton Centre for Research Engagement and Impact
  • Southampton Academy of Research

We also collaborate with colleagues from other parts of the Trust. In addition, we work closely with teams from the University of Southampton, NIHR Regional Research Delivery Network and Wessex Health Partners.

The network is overseen by Louise Ward (Business Administration Manager to the Directors of R&D) and Lauren Gellatly (Research Delivery Business Manager).

Together we are building a community of research administrators. This is focussed on collaboration, support and sharing knowledge.

How does your team support research in our university-hospital partnership?

Our team consists of a variety of roles. We use a wide range of skills to support research and ensure the smooth running of the department. Here’s how our roles contribute:

  • Administrators provide specialist admin support for specific areas. These include data, communications, PPIE, events, study set up, rostering and recruitment.
  • Receptionists and secretaries ensure that staff and patients have everything they need during visits to the department.
  • Personal assistants coordinate and manage complex diaries.
  • Office managers oversee excellent working environments for research staff. This ensures smooth running of our day-to-day business.
  • Business managers deliver corporate governance, business planning and operational support for senior managers.

Our team contribute to better patient outcomes and research activity. Whether behind the scenes or in patient-facing roles, we all play a key role in keeping the R&D department running smoothly.
