Southampton research nurses are finalists in Student Nursing Times Awards
Clinical research nurses from Southampton were shortlisted for two awards at the Student Nursing Times Awards.
The awards recognise nurses’ hard-work, innovation and dedication to nursing education across the NHS.
‘Fantastic achievement’
This year’s ceremony was held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Friday 28 April. Trusts, teams and individuals were shortlisted and the winners announced for 22 award categories.
The research nursing team at University Hospital Southampton (UHS) were finalists in the ‘Student Placement of the Year: Hospital’ award, honouring excellent student nurse placements in clinical research.
Alice Martindale was also individually shortlisted for the award ‘Student Nurse or Midwife of the Year: Clinical Research’.
Marie Nelson, UHS R&D Head of Nursing and Health Professions, said: “This is a fantastic achievement. It is brilliant to receive this recognition for all our team’s hard work in nursing education.
“My special congratulations go to Alice, who has proved herself to be an exceptional student.”
Supporting our future workforce
This achievement comes just months after Southampton research nurses won the award for Clinical Research Nursing at the Nursing Times Awards 2022. This praised Southampton’s use of joint roles to maximise collaboration, integration and opportunity for clinical research.
Steve Ford, editor of Nursing Times, said: “It is always an honour to host the awards each year and once again, I was really impressed by the calibre of the entries.
“By celebrating the best in nursing and midwifery education, Nursing Times aims to support the health and social care workforce of the future."
