Celebrating Success at the Human Factors in Healthtech Innovation Conference 2025
On Wednesday, 4th June, the Human Factors in Healthtech Innovation Conference brought together a diverse mix of over 90 innovators, academic researchers, and professionals, all passionate about shaping the future of health technology.
Co-hosted by Southampton Emerging Therapies and Technologies (SETT) and the Leeds Healthtech Research Centre in Accelerated Surgical Care, the conference featured 14 insightful presentations delivered by expert speakers from healthtech companies and partner organisation including the Wessex Secure Data Environment, Health Innovation Wessex, NIHR, Barclays Eagle Labs, Earswitch Ltd, Hobbs Rehabilitation Ltd, and Device Access Ltd.
The presentations were structured around three main themes:
- The importance of human factors in healthtech innovation
- Innovation infrastructure support for human factors driven innovation
- Building networks, partnerships and new collaborations
Attendees were provided with real-world case studies from innovators journeys, exploring their successes and challenges, as well as the vital role human factors play in the development and successful implementation of healthtech innovations. Topics ranged from funding and procurement strategies to innovation ecosystems, regulatory considerations and effective pitching.
Dr Sarah Crossland, lecturer in Medical Engineering from the University of Hull presented a powerful case study on what happens when human factors and PPIE are overlooked in healthtech development. Highlighting the essential learning points from her own innovator journey.
Beyond the inspiring talks and panel discussions, the conference provided a valuable opportunity for networking, enabling new collaborations to form between innovators, researchers, and key stakeholders in the healthtech sector.
The event was a resounding success, setting the stage for continued collaboration and progress in healthtech innovation in Wessex and beyond.
